Water Rotto Ready and the Moth World Championship

Set Sail for Summer: Preparing for the Season Ahead with Confidence, Safety and Seamanship on Perth’s Waterways

Summer is almost here, and for a lot of Perth boating families that means Rottnest over Christmas and New Year.

In Episode 4, we join David Upstone at Royal Perth Yacht Club and Tim Tyler at South of Perth Yacht Club. They talk through how to get yourself, the family and the boat ready for the Rotto run, covering:

  • skipper skills and planning the crossing
  • servicing the boat and checking safety gear
  • briefing the kids and the crew
  • moorings and bookings
  • New Year’s Eve in Thomson Bay
  • packing for a few days aboard

Then we head up the river to Mounts Bay Sailing Club in Crawley. Lary Smith tells us about the 2026 International Moth World Championship, held from 2 to 12 November. These are the hydrofoil dinghies that took off on these same waters in 2000.

Everyone belongs here.

Everything they care about does too.

Passions and Pastimes is a channel built for exactly that. Part of the Think Channel Media platform, it’s a home for the full spectrum of human interest; the niche, the nostalgic, the surprisingly deep, and the completely unexpected. Learning the bagpipes. Boating the Swan. Philosophy over a long black. Whatever it is that pulls you in and won’t let go.

Through podcast conversations, video stories, and real voices from real people, Passions and Pastimes goes beyond the surface of the things we love. It’s not just about what people are into, it’s about why, and what it means to go all in on something that genuinely matters to you.

But more than content, it’s a place to find your people. Whatever your passion, whatever your pastime, there’s a conversation here that will make you feel less alone in it, and maybe push you further into it than you expected.
The breadth is the point. Because passion doesn’t fit in a box, and neither does this channel.
